4. ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALLS TO PASSENGERS

General 

An announcement is either visual or made over the loudspeaker system (or both) and refers to all information given to passengers in connection with their flights or services rendered to them. Visual announcements to passengers are made either on information boards and/or on monitor screens. 

Announcements over the public address system are made in the English language at the airports and, if possible in the language of the country of destination. At the airports outside of the departure, the announcements are made in the language of the country where the airport is located, the English language and official language, if possible.       

Departure call 

INITIAL CALL –

………. (Airline’s name) announces departure of the flight ….… (Airline code and flight number) to ……… (Destination). (Passengers are kindly asked to identify their baggage before boarding the aircraft).

Time Standard; call 50 minutes before an international flight, 35 minutes before a domestic flight. 

Boarding call at the gate  

Good morning/afternoon/evening, Ladies and Gentlemen! 

……. (Airline name) flight……. (Airline code and flight number) to …… (Destination) is now ready for boarding. To facilitate boarding, the passengers 

  1. Boarding via the platform:
    • Please use the front entrance
    • Thank you. We wish you a pleasant flight.

If boarding is performed on buses, at least one bus for each class is preferred. 

  1. Boarding via the air-bridge
    • Allotted seats in the economy class should board first – Thank you. We wish you a pleasant flight.

Flight Arrival announcements 

……… (Airline’s name) announces the arrival of its flight …. (Flight number) from ….. (Destination).

Passport and customs control call

………. (Airline’s name) passengers to …… (Destination) on flight …… (Flight Number) are kindly asked to proceed to the passport and Customs control.

Announcements of traffic irregularities

  • SHORTER DELAYS – less than 15 minutes

As far as delays are concerned, it is not mandatory to indicate the reason for the delay.

………. (Airlines) announce that the flight S9…. (Flight No) to …… (Destination) will be delayed in departure for approximately…… minutes. Thank you for your comprehension.  

  • LONGER DELAYS – more than 15 minutes

The true reason for the delay must be given to passengers, but the announcement may contain only the most necessary information.

As the reason for the delay, only the following may be announced: 

…….. (Airlines) announce the delay of the flight …. (Flight Number) to …… (Destination) due to: 

  • unfavorable weather conditions (strong wind, storm, shower, snow, ice, runway, cleaning, fog, poor, visibility, low temperature, aircraft de-icing, unfavorable en-route weather conditions, waiting for meteorological data) 
  • Operational reasons (delay in the arrival of the previous flight, aircraft rerouting, flight schedule changes, and strike at the airport of destination, limitations for over-flying a foreign territory, other disturbances in traffic).
  • Due to technical reasons (aircraft break down, aircraft repairs, change of aircraft type).
  • Commercial reasons (waiting group of passengers, overbook). Next information at/in … o’clock/hours. 

Invitation to the restaurant/bar 

 ……… (Airline’s name) passengers to……. (Destination) on Flight …. (Flight Number) are kindly invited to the restaurant where lunch (dinner, refreshment) will be served.  A voucher will be given to you at ……… (Maybe the counter or the restaurant) 

Announcement of the expected departure time 

….. (Airlines’ name) announces that the departure of the flight…… (Flight Number) to …… (Destination) is expected at …. a.m. /pm 

Flight cancellation announcement  

 ……… (Airlines’ name) announces that the flight …..… (Flight No) to …… (Destination) has been canceled due to …… Further information will be given at ……..
